E-safety

At Havannah, we use the National Curriculum to guide our computing planning across the key stages. We teach computing as a discrete subject weekly and the children are also provided with opportunities to apply these skills across the curriculum in other lessons. Within our computing teaching, we focus on three key areas – Digital Literacy, Coding and Information Technology. E-Safety (Digital Literacy) is woven throughout all computing lessons so that digital literacy is revisited and reinforced throughout the year to help children to recognise the importance of the correct use of the internet and to introduce relevant developments.

We work hard to ensure that all of our technology is filtered and protected from unwanted risks. Measures are in place to keep children safe online and to reduce the chance of children seeing any inappropriate material. We also teach the children the skills needed to:

  • recognise that information on the internet is not necessarily factual and that sources should be checked
  • understand how to behave online when using social networking sites and instant messaging
  • know how and where to seek advice and support should anything happen which makes them feel uncomfortable.

We take part in 'Safer Internet Week' each year which reinforces our e-safety lessons and builds on the messages of being safe and kind on the internet. We have our Digital Literacy assemblies which give further advice and guidance on how to keep safe on the internet.

Many of the additional technologies our children come in contact with are those they use outside school (mobile phones, games consoles, tablets etc) and therefore, we have provided the links below to websites and resources which give additional information and support for parents so that they can support their children and help to keep them safe at home and elsewhere. We also share our E-safety policy with parents which you can find in our policy section of the school website.
